OVERVIEW

RD8100B transformer core ground sensor can measure transformer core grounding current and leakage current online (range: 0.00mA~100A). The current clamp is made of magnetic shielding material and has strong anti-interference ability. The inner diameter of the clamp is 80mm×80mm, which can clamp cables or grounding wires below Φ80mm or flat steel grounding wires of 96mm×4mm. Line current can be measured without disconnecting the measured line. The instrument is equipped with a 3.5-inch color touch LCD screen, with two operation modes of touch and key, which can display the measured current size and waveform in real-time, with alarm threshold setting and alarm indication function. It can also set the automatic shutdown function. The transformer core is single-point grounded during normal operation. If there are two or more points of grounding simultaneously, a current loop will be formed between the core and the earth, and the maximum current can reach tens of amperes, which will cause local overheating or even burning of the core. The instrument can detect potential faults in the transformer as soon as possible and is one of the main tools to ensure the transformer’s safe operation and normal maintenance. It is mainly suitable for the leakage current test of cores and clamps of electrical equipment such as transformers and reactors in substations and power plants.

FAQ

Q: How do you test a transformer core ground?

A: Using a Transformer Core Grounding Current Tester, secure the current clamp around the transformer core or grounding system, and set the appropriate current range. After energizing, monitor the tester readings, compare them with standard limits, and check if the grounding current is within an acceptable range. Document and report the test results. Ensure all safety precautions are taken before conducting the test.

Q: What is the grounding of the current transformer?

A: Grounding is typically done on the S1 terminal but can also occur on the S1(k) or S2(k) terminals. Grounding on the same side is crucial for proper system functioning consistently.

Q: Which type of grounding is used in a transformer?

A: Power transformers induce high potential in the core through electromagnetic coupling with windings. A single-point grounding system on the core safely dissipates this induced voltage to the local ground, ensuring operational safety.
